Argentina Wines Are Closing In On #1

Argentina is the fifth largest producer of wines in the world, but apparently this South American country is gearing up for a first place finish! With more than 1,000 new wine companies opened for business in 2005, exports and profits rose more than one third from the previous year. This is wonderful news for Argentina's economy, as well as for those wine enthusiasts in other areas of the world that haven't had the pleasure of toasting a glass made from Argentine criollas, or native vines. Although the majority of Argentinian wine is exported to North America and the United Kingdom, new markets are on the rise in Finland, Norway, India, Malaysia and Vietnam.

No wonder! With the perfect climate and soil conditions for growing grapes, Argentina creates wines of superior quality. The Malbec grape produces a large portion of Argentina's red wines with its characteristics of berries, plums, figs, and vanilla. European varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon with overtones of pepper, chocolate and coffee, and the velvety plum and berry-like Merlots and Syrahs are harvested in the shadow of the majestic Andes Mountains and then produced into ?bottled poetry?, as so aptly stated by Robert Louis Stevenson.

Exceptional quality and flavor at reasonable prices -- what more does one need? Oh, yes -- a corkscrew, a glass and a toast! Now where did you say Napa Valley was??!!

Wine Storage Temperature And Serving Suggestions

The love of wine has existed since the dawn of time. Fossil vines, 60-million-years-old, are the earliest scientific evidence of grapes. The earliest written account of viniculture is in the Old Testament of the Bible which tells us that Noah planted a vineyard and made wine (well with all those animals on the Ark what was he expected to do!)

Exactly when it was discovered is unknown, but an ancient Persian fable credits a lady of the court with the discovery of wine. This Princess, having lost favor with the King, attempted to poison herself by eating some table grapes that had spoiled in a jar. She became intoxicated and giddy and fell asleep. When she awoke, she found the stresses that had made her life intolerable had dispersed. Returning to the source of her relief, her subsequent conduct changed so remarkably that she regained the King's favor. He shared his daughter's discovery with his court and ...

The wine industry and consumption continues to grow every year. Wine connoisseur are continually buying great wine to keep either for later consumption or for investment.

One of the most important aspects to ensure your wine stays fresh during storage is the wine storage temperature.

The basics of wine storage temperature are fairly simple. First, the wine should be kept cool. Like most beverages and foods, heat is the natural enemy of wine. A cool temperature is optimal, but the temperature should not lowered too much as this too will harm the wine. In the unlikely event that the wine freezes, it will probably only be suitable for vinegar!

The basics of wine storage are really straightforward with whites, reds, and blushes. However, the serving preparation for each of these wine types is different and something worth discussing. After removing the bottle from storage, getting your wine to the correct temperature is important. With red wines, such as a merlot or sheraz, approximately 65 degrees Fahrenheit (18 degrees Celsius) is what is recommended. This is basically room temperature. Secret tip: in a room of about 70 degrees Fahrenheit the wine, due to being a liquid will naturally be cooler. It is highly advised to not chill red wines. This is a more common error than you think, the cold can be very destructive on the wine and its flavor.

With whites and many blushes the need for refrigeration before serving is key. Chilling truly brings out the flavor. For these types of wine 39 degrees Fahrenheit or 4 degrees Celsius is usually a good temperature.

In the case of both darker wines and the lighter types, it is advisable to let the bottle ?breathe? after opening. It is recommended you do this about half an hour before drinking (longer is often better)

Now to tasting. Swish the wine around the mouth to truly get the most out of the flavor. I however recommend drinking as opposed to spitting it out!

In the end ENJOY the wine, it is after all a pleasure that has been with us for centuries.

Patent Wine Pourer & Stopper

Is there anything that this multi-talented wine stopper can't do? It ensures gentle and controlled pouring action eliminates stray drips functions as a cork and even aerates wine as it is poured to enhance subtle flavors. The secret is an exclusive design that features an integrated steel ball. The ball seals like a cork when it's at rest yet helps to create a vortex inside the stopper as wine is poured. Rubber/metal/ plastic stopper provides a clean pour every time. Arrives in a handsome wood gift box. 3'L.

Red And White Wine: The Difference

Like many other people, you probably enjoy an occasional glass of wine. You've probably tried various red wines and white wines. But do you know the difference between reds and whites? The color, obviously, but there are other factors that make reds and whites quite different.

Both red wine and white wine can be either dry or sweet, or anywhere in between. But in general, reds are more robust and more complex than white wines. White wines tend to be lighter, without the complexity of reds. This basic difference has more to do with how the wines are fermented than it does with the grapes. Although red wines are generally made with red and black grapes, and white wines are usually made from green grapes, this isn't always the case.

The main difference between red and white wines is the fermentation process. When making white wine, the stems, seeds, and grape skins are removed from the grape juice after pressing. With red wines, the grape stems, seeds, and skins are left in the juice. Because of this, tannins and pigments will leach out of the stems, seeds, and skins into the grape juice. It's these tannins that produce the complexity of red wines.

Tannins are compounds present in grapes and other plants. Tea also contains tannins... if you've ever drank a strong cup of tea, the bitter, astringent taste is caused by these tannins. In wine, these tannins act to prevent oxidation of the wine while it ages. This is important in red wines, since reds are generally aged and matured for a longer period of time than white wines. The tannins present in red wine also provide another layer of flavor, increasing the complexity of the wine, and making it more robust. The astringency of the tannins will diminish and mellow as the wine ages.

Both red and white wines make an excellent addition to your meal. There are no hard and fast rules for matching wine and food, but the differences in wine do provide some guidelines. Usually red wines, because of their complexity will match better with a strong flavored meal. White wines, with their lighter body and taste match better with chicken or fish. But the main factor in choosing a wine for a meal is your own taste. Whether you prefer a light, white wine, or a full-bodied red, just choose whatever wine you prefer to accompany your meal, and enjoy!
